Even if a vehicle shuts off you can still steer and brake - so what is the big deal? It happened to me multiple times (bumped a key in a Saab, failed fuel pump, ran out of fuel) and I never was particularly worried - just carefully cruise to the side of the road.
Yes, if a key shuts off ignition often then it needs to be fixed - but replacing millions of locks just because some of them may one day accidentally shut off???? If this is the case then all the Saabs need to be recalled because the key can be accidentally shut off by a passenger reaching a back seat (a moot point since there is no more Saab).
Of course, I was glad to receive a free DIC for my 9-5 on the similar safety grounds - but I would much rather prefer recalls being done due to design error - e.g. when certain components fail almost 100% - or at least the manufacturer making the replacement parts heavily subsidized.
