Sounds like you must have traded it to a real sleaze-ball dealer! Some states do require you to send in paper work once you've sold a car but many do not. It always pays to have a bill of sale in any case just for this kind of contingency. Surely with a trade in you have some kind of paper work, right? Just reply with a copy of it and they should be happy enough. Though ryan's idea is tempting, go get it back and apply for a duplicate title. You'll have nearly a free car :)
