Metal frames almost guarantee non-standard sizes Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 15 Nov 2014 15:14:39 In Reply to: Seeking advice/input on window replacement, dtechakacheaptech, Sat, 15 Nov 2014 12:04:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Renewal by Andersen are very good and are custom measured to fit your openings. Local window companies selling their own private brand vinyl or fiberglass windows will run the gamut from "as bad as the old metal frame windows" to very good.
Non-standard sizes mean you will not be able to go to the local lumber yard and buy regular Andersen, Pella, or other national brands off the shelf.
And don't be fooled by the spelling of the name. The national window company with the good reputation uses an 'e' in the final syllable of their name, Andersen. There was a company in the Detroit area years ago spelling their name as Anderson who made crap windows but traded on the value of their brand name's homonym. Such things may be happening in other parts of the country as well
