Are they? I know the warranties are longer. But I guess it all depends on what one defines as "lasting". Different people find things are worn out at different levels of "worn-outness"... I find the materials used in many cars now are not as good as in those cars a decade or so ago... though it can be some things better some things worse... but a lot of thin cheap plastics and plastic push fasteners, and this stuff gets shoddy quickly. It is quite possible our c900's will outlast our 9-5. Of course, talking about SAABs and talking about "averages" are 2 different things.
On some level I agree with you, and I've probably said this a few times before here - if a c900 were to be built today, it would cost a whole heck of a lot more... and ours were ~30-40k in the late 80's/early 90's so that's quite a bit more in today's dollars... Though, with much technology in cars, well, we could compare in computer dollars to some degree I suppose! Computers sure are cheaper today relatively speaking - even neglecting the technical "bytes/$" stuff, real tasks like "able to do word processing"/$ they have still dropped phenomenally! So I suppose the same could be said of features in cars...
