Some words of warning....
General tourism is still not permitted. You have to be part of a cultural, educational, humanitarian, or similar mission.
Cuba is an enemy country. They do bad things to the U.S., though not to the scale of North Korea and ISIL. Helping them is like helping Hitler.
Cuba seized American property; not just property from big companies but homes from ordinary Americans. Before, the terms for ending the embargo was to compensate the American owners or give back the property. Nothing has been done. At the very least, the American owners could be compensated at the 1959 rate plus a discounted rate on interest....but no, the U.S. government just gave up stuff for nothing. What a bad negotiator?! I think it was done for ideological reasons.
In a few years, you will see Americans lose out as Cubans are too poor to buy much. On the other hand, they will receive tourist dollars and you will start to see clothing made in Cuba and maybe even car parts, someday.
If you have a heart attack in Cuba, God have mercy on you. A friend told me that he trained with a Cuban doctor who moved to the U.S. and was doing his medical residency. The Cuban doctor was incompetent and didn't know anything.
I would recommend not going to Cuba for vacation. Go to the Bahamas or Grenada. If you seek a communist state, go to Poland or Hungary, which is recently communist. If you want to see old cars, go to a museum. If you want to go to a weird country, go to Timor Leste or Djibouti.
