Helped my son set up a portable gas powered generator in the middle of a power outage. He used it for several years, then got a natural gas powered standby. The hassles with getting it out and connected, plus having to handle gaseline convinced him to go standby. At least when they come home from work the house is warm.
I'm getting to the point lifting 5 gallon gas containers is not fun, as a result we use a cheap little battery powered pump to fill the riding mower.
Kolher standby's do look good, Cummins maybe better, but use Biggs engines that need valves adjusted. Selecting the right KW capacity is a good point, my son's is 20KW, but then he's on natural gas and has a 4 ton A/C. I have a 3 ton A/C and can keep an eye on other electrical loads to get by on a lot smaller capacity. Thanks for the comments.
