Even though I suggest the use of a portable in a post below, I will suggest Kohler as a reliable unit. I know about a dozen people with them and they are all very pleased. I know three with Generac and they are all displeased. I also helped install two different Briggs and Stratton brand generators while working for a builder and they were very well received, but I don't have any follow up info.
Check the size you need as it is easy to overestimate the size and then you just burn more propane than necessary. Do your research and find the right one as they can burn up to 3 GPH of propane and it gets expensive when you have a two day outage. IIRC most in the 10-12K range burn around 2 GPH.
For reference I run a 2400 s/f house in summer with window A/C and in winter in Maine on a portable putting out 8K with no issues.
