He was working with a modeling agency in NYC and they acted as a "sponsor" (or whatever it is) for him and several other non-US nationals. That got him a visa so he could work here. He had done this before and I think the visa was good for three years.
Apparently the agency screwed up in renewing ALL the visas for their models and did some things that the State department considered fraudulent. So all the models at this agency who are non-US citizens have to leave and then find a way to come back. So the modeling agency, not the models, are the ones in hot water, but the models have to jump through a lot of hoops to get back in and be legal.
He is meeting with the agency's attorney next week and will know more, but for now, he has to leave the country for some time and then come back in. I have suggested he talk with a immigration lawyer, but he's gonna wait to se what comes out of the meeting he has coming up.
So for now its' wait and see. None of this is simple.
