you patch inner tubes??!? Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Sat, 26 Sep 2015 16:29:46 In Reply to: Re: Bike Tire question, used2bcheaptech, Sat, 26 Sep 2015 07:18:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
people still do that?!?
I always carry a spare tube. I don't even own a repair kit. pull the old one, pump to find the leak (curiosity), if the leak is not at the valve, look for evidence of puncture source which may still be in the tire to puncture the new tube. Once that's all good, new tube goes in.
It is very common for tubes to leak at the stem. Especially if the tire is soft and you bike on it, and especially if it is a schrader valve, the tube will slip in the tire, often tilt the valve in the hole, and the stress where the valve meets the tube causes the leak. I only use presta tubes as a result because you tighten them into the rim with a nut. Still, they can leak at the valve (either a bad valve or the rubber connection)...
For the car, probably a prankster if it happened quickly. I have had issues with poorly seated tires leaking slowly over time and it can be fixed with sealant (and detected by submersing the tire in water).
