It's a fun island, and as mentioned before, get a jeep for a day and tour around. Not really necessary for the whole trip, but good to get a chance to check out what is around, and go to different beaches. Baby Beach on the south end is pretty nice.
My wife and I spent our honeymoon there, and stayed at the Marriott Stellaris at the north end of the island. I think there were 3 parts to the Marriott resort, and the stellaris was the only part that wasn't time shares. Has been renovated, and kind of at the end of the line of hotels, thus a little more secluded. There is a casino in the hotel, and lots of restaurants/bars and endless beach.
We did a group snorkeling trip on a giant catamaran. Remember to check your pockets for non-waterproof camera's before jumping in... did I mention drinks are included!
Papiamento was a great restaurant nearby, otherwise do not go to the Ostrich farm, or the Donkey Sanctuary. The folks as customs will not be your friend if you do.
If you do have a rented jeep, go to the lighthouse at the north end, and take it off road. Lots of fun.
Also, as mentioned before, it really is a desert, and HOT!
Enjoy.
