OT: Lots of detail questions on Cutting The Cord 1 Saabers Like This Post! Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 19 Apr 2016 15:29:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
We have ComCast for TV and Internet. Their bills are continuing to climb even as channel selection diminishes. We have a fairly new Samsung SmartTV with built-in apps. Both the computer (with modem and router) and the TV (we only have one) are located in the same room, and each has its own co-ax input through the outside wall from a ComCast signal splitter.
Now for the questions:
1) What modem parameters must be met to buy our own device and save $10 per month?
2) What number from the yet to be purchased modem will I need to forward to ComCast so they can grant system access rights to our modem?
3) We live 35-40 miles from Detroit, maybe 50 miles from most of the major network broadcast antennas north of town. Are exterior Digital TV antennas available or are they all interior rabbit ears type? If exterior antennas are available, will I need a rotator (like the good old days) to get good signal strength on all channels?
4) Can the TV pick up signal from our N type router? Will I need a higher speed modem for the TV to receive wireless signals? Will I need to retain the separate cable line running through the wall to the TV to receive the Hulu/Netflix/Amazon signals?
5) Can I re-use the TV's existing thru-wall co-ax to bring the Digital Signal into the house without adding a new hole through our new exterior siding?
Thanks for all input. And by the way, I HATE television. Maybe even more than I hate telephones - both cell and land lines.
