So, I guess I need to spend some more time on Terrain message boards. Most are just grousing boards, not productive communities like this, but so be it.
Dealer diagnosed heavy valve carbonization and issues in the fuel injectors.
My $100 deductible covered the 6 new injectors, labor and loaner, and while things were apart and injectors were out, they performed some kind of heavy duty top end clean to address the carbon (more comprehensive than just drawing the cleaner in through the manifold).
Seems to run very well now, and I plan to push it pretty hard when I use it to make sure we don't replicate the issue.
I challenged the dealer about the carbon; on both my 9-5 and the GMC we use top-tier fuels, and fairly frequent Techron treatments. Dealer says those are very effective against carbon on the Saab engine, but on the GMC with DI fuel injection, the fuel mix doesn't sufficiently wash over the valves to be as effective.
Not an answer that made me happy, but I will watch things and try to learn more.
Thanks for chiming in!
