My wife and I are getting a Subaru Outback, but we're very aware that it's no Saab. Her 9000 Aero was totaled as it sat in our driveway, and despite it having been a 20+ year old car, there really isn't anything that did so many things well. Today we were talking about Saab's marketing slogan that, while weak from a marketing standpoint (IMHO), was spot on: "we don't make compromises; we make Saabs." It's possible I'm paraphrasing. And I know every car is a compromise to some extent. Saabs weren't the fastest cars, nor did they haul the most, but they did all the things I needed. So we're a little wistful as we buy our Outback. As for me, I'm keeping the Viggen a few more years. Then I plan to look at Alfa Romeo.
