I run on Conti DWS-06 for summer, and have been stretching their use through to December (climate change has been good to New England that way), but still run studded Hakka's in the real winter.
(two cars with the same set-up). expensive.
But to echo someone else's thoughts: I too stay home when it's really ugly out--business usually closes anyway and 'working from home' is an option, so it is silly that I have nasty winters and don't use them too much. I wish I had these studded tires when I was a kid.
All of these new 'all-compromise' tires are, in-fact, better than they used to be... but they still suck with over 1/2 an inch of snow on the ground, or black ice. Having my wife's car be armed with studs makes me not worry when she's 20 minutes 'late' coming home in crap weather.
