I am not familiar with the science but the 5.5l is a much bigger engine than the 2.3l say 2x plus. So proportionately, the 2.3 would have about 4 qts. I realize that we are not looking at engine temps, pressure e.g. turbo or not but assuming the Merc is a gasser with a turbo, you could say it was roughly comparable. I think you can stress an oil in even 100 miles if it's say a desert run at high temp and high acceleration and rpms so you need comparable operating conditions to see a true delta. Eg. someone in northern California with the same commute daily.
