I try to stay away from the dealer, not only because of the $160 labor rate, but also because I always feel like I can't trust what they are telling me. I have had an excellent independent repair shop, Higbie Auto Center, West Islip, Long Island, NY, ask for Richie, for the last 20 years. He isn't saab specialist, or a diesel mechanic, but he is honest. I do go to Jeep Garage forum and have gotten some good information from members there. Nothing approaching the quality of saabnet though. Jeep usa has helped me in the past. (If you are ready for another dealer story, here we go) There is another dealer (about 30 minutes away which I was using to avoid this current dealer), when the truck was new there was a problem where exhaust fumes was leaking I think through the def system. This service rep told me since he was not able to get the part for a couple of weeks I should take the truck back and if I smelled exhaust fumes I should just open the windows as I drove. I was astonished, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. After contacting Jeep usa customer service the needed part was overnighted to the dealer and the truck was repaired the next day. Where do they get these guys?
