Things like this are frustrating.
On the topic of sales tax being collected...
I live in unincorporated Nevada County in California. My address says, Nevada City, CA 95959.
Within the city limits of Nevada City (Pop. ~2500), there is a local tax that is collected above and beyond the state tax on sales conducted within the city limits. (It's about 1%, but I'm not sure of its exact value right now.)
When I buy through Amazon, ebay, or other large online retailers, my Zip code suggests that I live IN the city, since my zip is the same as the zip in the city limits. I get charged state tax AND the city tax when I buy through retailers who are now collecting "CA tax".
In the "olden days" it was my responsibility to report purchases made online and pay the state their ~7% (who actually did that? no one). Now, most large retailers collect tax based upon zip codes. It used to be only retailers who had a physical retail space in the state. The states were feeling like they were loosing out on tax revenue (they were/are), and the retail landscape has changed.
I get it. I don't have to like it. I also can't blame a business if they decide that the complexity of compliance isn't worth their efforts to stay in compliance. (Yay for unintended consequences!)
Cheers,
~Peter
(I buy my Saab parts almost exclusively through eEuro... never had a problem, and I've ordered a LOT of parts over the last decade and a half.)
