A Carfax is good reading if you like fiction. I'm not sure anymore who is "required" to enter information into a Carfax. I recently purchased a car for my daughter and asked if I could run a PPI (pre-purchase inspection). The dealer said, no problem, just make sure the PPI info was not forwarded to Carfax. The dealer showed me a copy of the present Carfax; it had 7 entries during the last 15 yrs. What a joke. The car passed the PPI with flying colors and I made the purchase. I would ask to see a copy of title before I asked about the Carfax. There is a difference between a "clean" and a "clear" title, Clean means no accidents, etc.; clear means the seller has the title with no liens. Other words like Salvaged, Total Loss, etc. can ruin your day when you go to register this car with your DMV. If possible make the transaction in person. Good Luck.
Happy Thanksgiving
