People wonder why I get frustrated when classified users don't read the confirmation email they get sent. This is sent to every single person who places a classified when their ad goes live. This is the warning I give them. This was sent to Tom too. Please see the links in the confirmation email. YES, this is the very scam I warn about and wrote pages and pages and pages about on the site. I've collected over $100,000 in fake checks.

It's really very rare, but sometimes classified scammers do email users. The link below has some examples and information about past scam attempts. Currently, the most common scam attempt is the counterfeit over-payment check then wire funds to transporter/third party pick up. Overpayment is the single biggest tip-off of a scam - they want you to wire the overpayment portion to someone before you realize it is a counterfeit check. If someone asks you to use a link a buy a VIN or title report, you should just ignore it as this is a common scam to try to get your credit card details. If you need a Carfax report, you can get them through Saabnet.com, just email me for details. The very latest scam I have seen is the one in which they ask you to pay 50% of an inspection of the car ($100). I update this page with all the latest scam attempts that occur here:

If you receive a questionable classified response, please forward a copy to me at saab@saabnet.com for review. These scam emails should be easy to spot from their poor english and desire to have a third party pick up the car. If I find that a scammer has contacted anyone, I will notify everyone that person has contacted and will ban the scammer from sending any further emails. Also be aware that some scammers are contacting people by text message. Please let me know if you are contacted by a scammer in this manner.
One question I often get is do the Saabs in the classifieds get sold over long distances sometimes. The answer is a resounding YES. They go from coast to coast quite often and even to Europe. Don't be surprised if someone is willing to go the distance to get the Saab they are looking for. Last year I flew form CA to CO to drive home the lower mileage Saab I wanted. It happens ALL THE TIME.
