Leaving oil unchanged before winter storage...not great, but bad? Posted by bender [Email] (#268) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bender) on Tue, 20 Oct 2020 07:43:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've been storing my Viggen for the winter for over a decade and I always replace the oil before storing it. This year, I was not able to drive the car (in the US and the car is in Canada). My mother and father have been kind enough to take care of the car and my mom has driven it for me (she used to drive another Saab). It's time to store it again and the oil that's in the car now is 1 year old and has maybe 1500 miles? I thought for this year, to just go ahead and store it as is.
The reason being is that I haven't really taken my car to a mechanic and have been doing maintenance on it all those years. I don't trust just anyone with my car having had bad experiences. I like to change my own oil.
Should I try to find someone to change the oil? Or is it fine for the winter? I'm leaning towards leaving it as is for the winter. I don't want to get all worried about things I've read that may very well be unscientific (like, the oil gets "acidic" and that somehow is bad). I'm more concerned about not finding a shop I can trust with it.
Thanks for helpful thoughts.
