Yes certainly clean off any corrosion. When you say you bought a new battery charger, it is truly a charger or a battery tender type of device (I prefer the latter). My '03 Saab 9-3 Arc leased new then purchased only has 37,300 miles on it. Around 2011 I began working from home and barely drive the car, which is a shame since it has had the BSR PPC since 2005. Went through a few batteries due to non-use. One time it would start and then the next time the dash lights are like a fireworks display, along with grunts and groans from the computer modules. I thought I was going to need a new battery again, but the last time this occurred I pulled the battery and left it connected to my Battery Tender in the garage for about a month. Ever since I reinstalled it in the car it is starting fine, and I try to get out there and run the car up to operating temp every week. If the battery voltage gets low enough sometimes you have to trick the battery tender into starting by also connecting a 9V battery. Yes I have already seen a charger say a battery is charged when it is in fact almost dead. If you can access the cells by removing the caps, also top off with distilled water prior to charging (some batteries are sealed).
