Hakkas are usually about the same price as blizzak, and IMHO a better tire as the blizzaks have great initial ice grip until that layer is gone and then they aren't so great. I'm guessing you are from London Ontario based on your name? The unfortunate thing in Canada is kal tire now has a more or less monopoly on nokians so it can be hard to get as good deals, though I did get nokian summers in the spring for less than other options at other retailers. Usually the deal is only on a set of 4.

As others said, if your car is awd, get 4 of the same and sell the 3. Someone will buy them for the right price.

The bulge is probably a belt gone from a pothole hit. Unlucky. I lost 2 sets of tires last spring over our crummy roads north east of you (and also replaced most of the front end suspension on our 9-5 and still have a rattle/click) so I feel your pain!
