Many years ago, I won an ebay auction for an item that would need to be shipped in a box and was sent an empty letter envelope. When I filed my complaint with ebay and spoke to a resolution rep, I argued that the auction item would not fit in an envelope that weighed a fraction of a pound. The rep sided with me and issued me a refund immediately.

If there is a weight discrepancy between your item and the weight declared on the shipping label of the envelope you received, maybe that would strengthen your case.
