GM is progressing. The Alero is ten times better than the car it replaces. That same Alero platform that you are referring to doesn't flex nearly as much as the 9-3 platform that I drive now. Besides, you can't judge the entire GM lineup on a low-level rental car. As far as switch material goes, it's a $16K - $20K car and I didn't think it was that bad...Have you been in a $20k Ford lately...now that's cheap switch gear. I know that the switch gear/interior pieces are not up to import quality, but it's getting better. I beginning to believe that GM has come to terms with it's poor quality problems and is beginning to do something about it. Is it too late to swing people like yourself back into the American market? I don't know, but if I were you, the next time I go buy a car, I'd keep an open mind and even consider some of the higher end GM products...they may surprise you.
