All my students start their finals next week and I believe that a lot
of you who read this BB are good problem solvers, in general. So
here's one that is good, in a modelling sense, but requires little
or no formal math: It's raining out at a constant rate. There's no
wind. You're in the house and you have to get to your Saab, which is
out in the rain. Should you walk, or run to your car to be as dry as
possible? ........"People who believe that making a convincing case
does not require carefully reasoned arguments are not likely to
produce carefully reasoned arguments"......I'm not sure who first
said this, I'm paraphrasing, but I feel real 'high-falutin' when I end
things with a fancy quote!
