"I would like to take German, but I've been told that the grammar is difficult...."
No way. German grammar sticks to strict (and usually simple, and therefore *predictable*) rules - this makes it easier than you might think. What most people *do* find a little challenging is remembering the gender of nouns (3 genders, and not as obvious to guess at compared to Spanish). Compounding the problem is how they change when accusative or dative (so now you've got 9, or even 12 in some contexts); bit of a mind bender for us non-native speakers - but you won't do that for 2-3 semesters (in the States), and it just takes practice.
Other: IMHO German is a really vivid language: succinct, highly desctiptive/graphic, exacting. It's interesting/fun to learn because both German and English have a common root and share some subtleties of language; kinda get a weird deja vu feeling. If your of German decent you'll dig learning about the culture. P.S. Since they don't offer Swedish at college, German is actually a pretty good primer! ;p
