I think I have had about enough of the mindless anger being directed at the evil GM on these BB's. I think some are letting some sort of raging hatred for GM blind them. This seems especially true for many of the C900 owners. This belief that the NG900's and 9-3 are junk, unreliable, look like a boring Honda, etc. They bounce these things back and forth off each other until idea's like, "GM has ruined Saab", "New Saab's are rebadged Chevys" and other nonsense begin to form. And how is all this despise for the new owners supposed to make them feel. they have always wanted a Saab and then when they finally get one they get ridiculed by those who place themselves on high for being, "true" Saab owners. It's like there is some brewing class war. Well I have 2 rules to tell that might be a bit of a shock for some. 1) GM/Saab is a NEW car company that manufactures and sells NEW cars. 2) All any car company anywhere in the world wants is to sell more.
Again car company's sell NEW cars not 15 year old cars. I think everyone is forgetting that back in 1994 on the showroom floor the 94 NG900 was light-years ahead of the 93 C900 from the year before. That's what car companies care about. There isn't a single one of them that wouldn't sacrifice 250,000 mile reliability for more sales today. Believe it! And it's not a "GM" thing. It's a capitalist thing. You want to live in a place where the car designs never change then call up Mr. Sherman and take his Way Back machine to the 1950 and move to the USSR. For those that think the new Saabs aren't Saab enough let me ask, "What is Saab enough?" A horizontally mounted engine? A wrap around windshield? No cup holders? No convertibles? Perhaps a 50hp 3cyl. 2-stroke engine in the next 9-3? Would it be Saab enough then?
"NG900/9-3 is just a rebadged Opel Vectra, junk!" It is held up like some kind of grail to show how GM is watering down Saab. The NG900's not pure a blooded Saab and that make is less of a car. Yet I have not once heard anyone complain that the 9k is only a rebadged Fiat. Why is that? Why the hypocrisy? Is it because Opel is GM and GM is satan? Perhaps now that GM owns 20% of Fiat people will start to hate the 9k for being just another example of how GM is ruining Saab.
There are some one this BB that have the same "blame GM" mentality that militant muslims show for the United States. They are inherently bad. Anything they touch they ruin. Anything bad is their fault. "I don't like the new grill" Blame GM. "No more 5 doors with the next 9-3?" Blame GM "I don't like the new names" Blame GM. "I don't like this", "I don't like
that", "I can't satisfy the ol'lady" Blame GM, blame GM, blame GM. It's like some kind of mindless mantra.
Blame capitalism. Blame the free market. Blame Saab for selling out to GM in the first place. Blame the designers for not trying hard enough to push through whatever styling feature it is you like that the new Saabs might lack. Blame the Pope. Blame the DH rule in the AL. Just stop blaming GM.
Well... maybe not stop. GM does do a lot of bone headed crap. Just at least spread the blame around a little.
