You can tell a lot about a person's preference in heros by the
players he chooses. The whole team was on game yesterday and my sense
was, as Brooks pointed out, the US just ran out of steam after a super
week of extraordinary effort.
The Great One named Theo Fleury every time he was interviewed (many times)
as that choice, in particular, drew a lot of criticism and he did draw one
cheap shot penalty, as expected, then came out of the box to scare the bejeez out of Richter & co in front of the net.
Others up for frequent mention were Sakic, Lemieux, and Yzerman for
intangible leadership qualities which began to be shown in the 3rd
period of the Sweden game.
The team was being awfully wary of Brian Leech.
It was a wonderful game and a national event of huge
consequence for Canada. I guess the Swedes are banging pretty hard
on their whole team over there and especially their hockey team.
