they were the better team. I always liked the way Joe Sakic played -
he was great yesterday - so was Kariya and the whole defense. But I
agree with many of your points: it's hard to get too excited over all
these millionaire/professionals being involved with the olympics. The
olympics was never really about that - it was supposed to be non-political
and an amateur event. People who loved to play the game, and would play
it without being paid ANY money. Unfortunately, hockey, a great game,
will become like all the other sports that are controlled by the 'free'
marketeers. Less and less will there be people like you and I going to
games as only those with some sort of corporate sponsor will be able to
get tickets, let alone afford them! The 'free' marketeers have extended
themselves to even limit the publics viewing of olympic events - there
were many games I would have liked to watch on TV but weren't available
over 'free' TV. Many will argue that this is natural and that's the
way everything is nowadays - which I have a problems with. To me, it's
taking things 'lying down', not having the courage to stand-up and fight
for what should be. Until sports are 'liberated' from the 'free' marketeers, ie. nationalised and liberated from private ownership, I
see only spiraling ticket prices, less ability to watch on TV, and sports,
in general, being available to only those who can afford to play.
