Fishtailing and hyroplaning are major drawbacks to rwd cars. Not sure about your snow adventures, but a set of snow tires makes a Saab plow like a tank. This is where you want the weight over the tires to increase stabiltiy, not happening with front engine rwd cars unless you load up the trunk:-)
And Porches are notorious for being squirrelly from rear weight/power. That's why they switched to 4wd for their autocrossing.
The Tempest was great for ovel tracks, but try manuevering that beast through a slalom race and you'll see grass real quick.
RWD is thrilling for muscle cars going straght or doing a side slide out of a turn, but for street use I prefer the fwd system as it is more predictable under duress.
Besides, a RWD Saab would just be a turbo BMW with a hatch... yikes!
