We lived in England for a couple of years.
I knew quite a few people who had to go to the hospital multiple times because the (comparitively) minor surgey they were scheduled for got postponed because all the beds were full. They did not find this out until they got to the hospital. Talk about stressful!
Also orthodontists won't fool with teeth until all the adult teeth are in - so not much corrective work is done. Lots of Brits with crooked teeth.
On the plus side, going to the hospital with a minor emergency (my daughter sprained her ankle) was very simple with NO paperwork at all and I thought the level of care was outstanding, even if we had to wait 4 hours (as we would in the US for such a low priority injury). So for a lot of situations the system works quite well.
