In Canada, the health care is mostly free. You never see money being an issue outside of the gift shop or cafeteria. Yes some of the procedures have waiting etc.
So the US has the best health care in the world... for those who can afford it. In Canada, health care is a right. It is not perfect and there are problems. Tell me the US situation does not have problems.
Whenever these discussions come up in the US someone has to hang the 'socialized medicine' label on it. The doctors do not work for the goverment. They send their bills to the goverment to be paid. Are there standardized fee schedules... yup... just like the HMO's I guess. The costs for US doctors and hostpitals and HMO's to make claims to all of the different health insurance entities is huge. In the US a hospital will charge $4.00 for a tylenol (sp?) tablet and track it through the system. This is really stupid and engineered to drive up costs. Then the insurance companies put presssure on the doctors and ofter negociate the prices down by perhaps 1/2. And someone who had no insurance would be billed for the full amount. That's the state of 'Corportate medicine' in the US.
