I find myself wondering whether drivers who do dumb things while dialing or talking on the phone aren't drivers who also do dumb things while doing neither?
How many times have we seen a driver:
- Reading?
- Applying makeup?
- Wildly gesturing with their hands while talking to someone in the car?
- Eating?
- Unfolding a map?
- Frantically looking for the cigarette cinder in their lap?
- Turned around to yell at/smack the kids in the back seat?
- Fiddling with their CD collection?
Is any of these less hazardous than speaking on the phone?
I'm not convinced a correctly designed & used phone is inherently dangerous to use in the car. I seldom use mine--in the car or anywhere else for that matter--but don't like the idea of its being forbidden.
But hey, it's a Swedish phone :-)
