If you are culturally and historically inclined, then you
will recall that the Dutch had a bit of an empire going
in the 1600s, including still owning, through the Dutch
Royals, some substantial part of Manhatten.
They also 'owned' Indonesia and a portion of SE Asia spice
trade so the historical connections are still there. Ask
around for good Indonesian restaurents. Some are quite
fairly priced.
The Dutch are also very proud of "Venice of the North" Amsterdam
architecture. To get a sense of that, as restored and without
the clutter and noise of downtown, go our to de Zzanse Schans,
considered a "must-see" by the Dutch themselves.
If you get a chance, Rotterdam is worth a visit, if only to see
the unbelievable things the Dutch can do with marine engineering.
Remember, it was the Dutch that engineered the raising of the Kursk
submarine; a feat unprecedented in marine engineering.
They are likely to be extremely politically sensitive at this time.
They abhor violence and they just lost an extreme right wing politician
to assassination. Fortyun was his name.
