There is a restaurant in a the neighborhood "Jordaan" (sp?) called ZEST. Great food, great atmosphere, small place. Jordaan has great little shops and is kinda trendy.
A word about dining- the Dutch are in no hurry. Most restaurants make expect to turn tables only once or twice in a night.. It ain't America, they are not going to push you out the door as fast as they can to seat someone else there, so call and make reservations. The prices are very, very resonable, and they don't expect big tips, usually none at all.
If you have a day that you want to take a daytrip somewhere, go to Utrecht. Great little town, 40 minutes by train, climb the tower of the church for breathtaking views, if you have any breath left after climbing the 200+ stairs!
Have a great trip, hope you run into a Saab owner to have coffee with. If you plan on renting a car, and want a great driving experience, rent a Smart car, they are a blast to drive, especially for us deprived Americans.
