There *may* be a sneaky way around this... At least locally, Enterprise will waive the surcharge *if* your car is in for repairs - they may or may not call a shop to verify. The weird part is they don't seem to care how long you have the car once it's been rented. Back when I was 22 with my first Saab, I ended up renting an Altima for almost two months (long story) over the summer. Didn't get hit with any surcharges or anything. I honestly don't think this will work for you given how long you *intend* to keep the car, but it's worth noting for future rentals... :) Of course, maybe you can find a friendly body shop or something to "store" your car while you're away. You know, to keep up appearances... ;)
