New air compressor keeps spitting water.......... Posted by DougM [Email] (#211) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DougM) on Tue, 11 Jun 2002 16:30:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It is time for me to start spraying paint on the 1973 99 restoration project I've been working on for the last 6 months. No expenses spared on this project so far. I just recently dropped a load on a new Ingersol-Rand compressor($500 at TSC) and Campbell- Hausfeld filter/regulator/oiler($109 at TSC). Two reasons for the upgrades, the 4.5hp Sears compressor that I've been using does not have enough cfm to spray a car using HVLP, and it also liked to spit water out the gun when I was spraying primer. This is a no-no when I have over $500 invested in the paint and clear (viggen blue).
The old set up I was told was a no-no as the filter was too close to the source and the water was condensing in the hose as the air cooled. I called Campbell-Hausfeld and talked to their tech help desk(a woman answered the question). She said that the filter set-up had to be at least 25' away to be effective which made sense as the air needed time to cool and condense at the trap as it was designed to do.
So a call to my father was made(professional plumber for 45 years) and he came out today and ran a little more than 25' as was suggested by more than one person to the other side of the garage. Got home from work and tested it out and was horrified to see water spraying out the end of the hose again. It sucks to be me sometimes.
What next? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
