OT: Laptop for college.

I'm going off to college in about 3 months and I will need a laptop to go with me, I love my desktop, but I think the portability will really help me with regard to keeping my notes organized and such. I'm a longtime PC user, so a Mac is out of the question for me. I have more or less narrowed the possibilities to IBM, Dell, or Compaq. My future school is offering a 1.6GHz IBM with 30GB HD and other assorted accessories for around $2400. This seems to be a pretty good deal, the best part of it being that all the software for hooking up to the college network is already installed with the appropriate ethernet adapter. I would like to go for the maximum available speed ,however, which is now about 1.8-2GHz for laptops. I keep telling myself that the majority of the work I will do on the computer is word processing with some digital music and non-graphics-intensive games (such as Age of Empires) thrown in for good measure. Any thoughts on my predicament? Thanks in advance.
