One of the laws of physics, (i forget which one), states that the force of
an object standing on the ground is proportional to the mass * gravity.
When you try to move this object forward, the twisting force is delivered to the center of the wheel, but is resisted by inertia acting at the center
of gravity, which in most cars & trucks acts from a few inches to feet above the wheel center. In rear wheel drive, that inertia is transferred to the rear wheels, where it acts downward, thereby increasing the "traction" on the rear wheels. Have you ever seen someone stuck in the
mud have someone jump up and down on the rear bumper of a RWD car or truck.
Sometimes it works, because you are increasing the downward force and thereby the traction. On FWD, that force is actually liftin up on the front
wheels thereby decreasing the traction, so FWD is at a disadvantage both
going uphill and towing heavy loads, both scenarios which increase traction
on RWD.
