I've subscribed to them for a while and they're always seemed to have a soft spot in their hearts for Saab -- Kitman is an old 99 driver and Lorio seems to have a lot of warmth for Saab. they are much less BMW-biased than, say, C&D.
I just got the "50 hot cars" issue and agreed 100% with their assessment of the new 9-3: solid, fun-to-drive, exponential dynamic improvements, competitive, handsome but a little bland, stiff competition in the niche they've chosen and the elimination of the hatch removes a big reason to buy a Saab. They correctly point out that Saab is betting that the car's other improvements (handling, suspension, elimination of torque steer, mainstreaming) can overcome the loss of a major raison d'etre in the hatchback versaility, and that by facing the competition head-on as they are, they might gain some but might also lose their core support.
