I never heard that, but it would certainly be interesting. I'm pretty sure the problem is one of amperage - I stayed pretty up to date on the state of electric superchargers, and the last I heard they were managing a whopping 4psi @ 12v/80a from a production model. I think that kind of technology is simply impractical - can you imagine the current draw to produce 35psi? It would be unreal. I suppose the new 42v electrical systems could have some impacr, but I doubt it would be anywhere near enough to do what Saab needs.
What I do want to know is what the mechanical supercharger on the SVC looks like - a supercharger that can provide 35psi to a 4-cylinder motor across 6000+rpm would be quite an engineering feat. I'm sure it's not centrifugal - I think I read it was a Roots? That's even more impressive; they generally aren't that flexible. I guess maybe it only needs to provide boost up to 3000 or 4000rpm, after which the high compression kicks in and the supercharger cuts out?
Heh.... I can't wait to see how long it takes Maptun/SQR/etc to come out with a chip for this motor. Hehe...
