I replaced the 1.8 litre motor with a 2.0 litre. It has the 1.8 litre head (11:1 compression)ported and polished, full race cams from Eurosport, Eurosport racing header (there were no emissions checks in OK. heh. heh. heh.), the intake and header are port matched to the head. For fun, I've fitted a muffler/tip assembly from a 944 Turbo, and have 3" mandrel bend pipe between the header and muffler assembly. The muffler assembly came from our parts dept, & was free (obsolete Porsche part from our Porsche days in the late eighties). The exhaustlooks very nice and sounds with a huge (but not overbearing) growl. Shocks are KYB Gas-Adjust, springs are stock but clipped by a few coils (didn't have a lot of extra money in college). It wasn't until after college when the heavy modifications began, so I'll replace the springs in due time. It is in progress right now; the second gear synchro finally died, so it's torn apart at the moment. I actually haven't had time to drive it in about a year and a half (car business doesn't leave me much time for tinkering with my toys), but I love my JETTA.
Cheers,
Brian.
