My dad still has his. He's very active in the local club. I'd say they're (Miata folk) into their cars even more than we're into ours!
Outstanding handling- even better if you put on a good set of low profile rubber. I'll agree on the lack of power. They're adequate for regular driving, a little underpowered for a sports car IMO. You have to keep the revs up around 4G to get the most out of the engine and that gets a bit loud and tiring after awhile. A friend of mine has one with (among many other things) a supercharger. Brings the power up to about 170hp- doesn't sound like much, but consider the size of a Miata! I'm confident he could keep up with a Viggen, if not outrun it.
I had mine for a year, during which I managed to put about 40K kms on it. The only problem is: Its only good for driving. If you've got more than one friend and a jacket to take you're out of luck! This is one seriously small car. I'd recommend one as a second (fun) car. They've been around since 1990 so you can pick one up real cheap now. Many of the older ones have never been winter driven, or have very low mileage so they're an even better deal.
The Miata is the only car I've owned that I enjoyed (almost) as much as my Aero!
