Look at what you have to spend to fix the Saab verus the cost of another car, bearing in mind that it might need stuff next month.
If you pay to have it done, the front brakes on your Saab should be about $450 to $600 for rebuilt calipers loaded with pads, plus rotors. he e-brake is on the fornt on your car and e-brake cables may or may not be needed. Just doing calipers may fix it (alwasy has on my '84. You may need new rear pads, but rear calipers don't go all that often. Go to a chain operation for shocks (Your car doesn't have struts). A set of Monroes or KYBs will last and be about $200, maybe less on sale. Monroes work fine on a C900. On the other hand, who knows what may go next.
Of the cars you're looking at,the condition of them a big part of this. 130K on the Volvo (if accurate, which should be checked) would make it seem like a good deal, but remember it is a 21-year-old car and stuff may go. Volvos are durable but can be expensive to fix. But 240s are good machines.
I'd stay away from the Benz as they get pricey to fix and that mileage is where they often begin to need things to get them thru the next 100K. But if some major stuff has been done and it is in good shape, it is worth a close look.
Don't know a lot about Hondas, but it could be OK. They are durable and usually run well. People I know with old Civics love 'em.
Whichever you are serious about, pay a reliable tech to look it over and give an opinion. Try to get an idea of how long it will be before the beast will need stuff.
You sound like you need reliability--you might want to look for a Toyota Corolla or Camry. Boring as hell, but are decent transportation that will get you to school and back.
Good luck.
