check the new Audi A3 out....it's GORGEOUS in my opinion. if saab releases a smaller car (see: 9-1 or 9-2) this is their competition...this is where the standards are set. as well, in america, the new golf gti 20th anniversary edition is unveiled (you can check it out at the front page of vwvortex.com).
there has been a lot of talk about a new saab...either based on the opel astra or the suburu wrx. i think they could go either way. the astra seems the better route...the older astra was rated better handling than a lot of other top cars including the vw golf. although the concept astra is a little out of control jetson's space-age in my opinion. but- it leaves room for the diesel option which is huge in europe and hopefully some day will catch on here in the US (as opposed to our trend of SUV's). i'd love to see more wagons and hatchbacks and diesel cars here in the US. the SUV thing is stupid and over with...i see too many soccer mom's driving them with their little dogs and no passengers and too many rapper wannabe's driving them with their chrome rizams and 3xl velvet sweatsuits...i don't mind if someone is hauling a boat with one, or transporting 9 people, groceries a refrigerator etc. anyhow, back to my point...saab does need a new smaller car to increase sales....their sales ARE increasing but they need to start making mad profit....smaller cars sell more than large luxury cars or specific type models. i'm glad they scrapped the SUV idea...i do love their concept vehicles of course....we'll see what happens with that...there still may be room for those within the next 5 years. if they make a small car they can make a coupe/hatch/sedan and even maybe base a sonett model off it!!!!!! the saab 99 was such a tight little great handling car!!! i'd much rather see a new 99/sonett than a larger car or an suv type model. it opens the doors for several options. they can have a cheaper economical model as well as a HOT tuned one....they can cover all the bases. i'm not sure how they would convert or work with suburu regarding their WRX/impreza...that seems to be a very narrow focused car with not a lot of room for give....in the end it may just be a rebadgged suburu...i don't see how much they could change on it...and the engine choices are nil. great car and a great price though....even vw of america has their head up their arses over that one--offering a cheaper car with 4wd and turbo and loads of other great things.....in europe you can get a 4wd golf with a choice of half a dozen engines....they may bring the r32 golf here to america but it may be too much money and too little too late as it's a high output na 6cylinder with 4wd and such and no options.
ok enough rambling by me...i mostly wanted to show you all the new A3 and hear more of your thoughts/talk more about the saab-small car because i think it is the future of saab and a really exciting subject.
