I agree... imvho they have to have one clear message and beat it to death. Clearly Volvo has taken the slice of the pie in marketing the safety aspect. Are Volvos really that much safer than SAABs, Mercedes, the Beetle, Passat? Maybe, but for reality's sake, probably not. But that doesn't matter, because the general public accepts now, without question, that they are safe.
SAAB needs to pick something else.. the excited drawing of the driver was a start, but ultimately tacky. Whatever they choose, it has to be something immediately memorable and consistent across the brand, for some time at least. Most SAAB printed ads are extremely wordy; I think they make the general public think a little too hard. We're not trying to dumb people down, but a simple, short message, whether it is a visual or a 10 word tagline, is powerful. VW marketers are masters of this.
Ryan, I don't know of anyone who rents saabs in the city unfortunately...
