Yea, I just think that really they are different genres of music. Phish is a pure jam band. DMB isn't really a jam band, but they sometimes get thrown in that category. They are just a great band that jams sometimes.
From a musical standpoint (I play guitar, bro plays bass, cousin on drums), DMB tunes are truly unique, and some are very difficult to play (I'm not talking about the radio hits, those are toned down). That said, I haven't tried to play any Phish stuff.
Haven't been to a Phish show myself, I'm just going by hearing their live recordings.
Overall, when I consider the entire package.....the melodies, the lyrics and the messages they give, the unique sound, the amazing musicianship and the ability to jam, I don't think anything can touch DMB.
But hey, thats just my opinion, and its all good music anyway, and its about having a good time, and just a matter of what sounds the best to your ears.
