Drive a new 9-5, I think you'll be impressed with how well Saab's turbo works these days.
Incidentally, my very first car had a 3.8L buick engine- It was GM's first attempt at a turbocharged production engine and it wasn't all that great. It was during the time when US was getting beat by the Japanese over fuel consumption and was meant as an economical way to have a powerful car. That engine eventually evolved into the GNX engine over the next 10 years.
My 9-5 Aero is light years ahead of that engine. 2.3L, 250hp, 258lb-ft! My buick had about 165hp from a turbo 3.8!
