The 1962 Oldsmobile Jetfire had, to my knowledge, the first production turbocharged V8. They used the all aluminum 215ci V8 from Buick (that was later sold to British Leyand and still today lives in the Range Rovers, though with many refinements over the years). With the turbo Oldsmobile was able to get 215hp from the 215ci engine and could have done more if not for GM's weird 1hp-per-cubic-inch rule. Pre OPEC cheap gas, realiablitly concerns and high sales from Pontiac's little GTO killed not only the turbo but also the 215 V8 at GM.
