Brought the Liberty home on Friday and it pretty much went straight into the garage. Since the rear window didn't work, I couldn't leave it outside in the rain. Downside of it sitting in the garage is that I pretty much had to take tools to it. ;)
So far I've not made huge progress but I'm in a precipice - I'm halfway through a oil & trans fluid change, just waiting on Amazon to deliver replacement fluids and an oil filter. I was a little shocked at the high price of the transmission filters - there are two, and they total $60 from the dealer. Ouch! I was poised to buy a new window regulator from a junkyard or ebay, but found they are available, brand new, for $60. They are aftermarket, not ChryCo, but $60! Sheesh! Then I had to order new motor mounts - the two engine and one transmission mount came to $190. I don't think Saab motor mounts ever came to $190! The engine is sitting on a hoist right now and ups.com says the replacement mounts are on my porch, so I've got work to do tonight. Turns out when numb nuts replaced the alternator he did not reinstall the decoupler pulley (a device I had never heard of!) so it may be responsible for the squeak from the belt drive. I'd be really happy if that turns out to be a cheap fix.
I will probably have it back together tomorrow night, maybe Saturday morning, and then I hope to be able to put some miles on it before returning for Round 2 of work - PCV rehab and glow plug replacement. Right now I am kind of trying to just triage it, get it roadworthy to be sure it's not going to explode before spending any real money on it. Right now I have about $600 in parts in it, including like $100 worth of fluids. Fingers crossed, but I somewhat inexplicably excited about this thing.
In any case, this is it - one $3000 CRD:
